Shinya Yamanaka is a Japanese medical researcher whose induced pluripotent stem cells opened new ways to study disease and regeneration.

Grew up in Higashiōsaka.
Medical training
Earned his medical degree at Kobe University in 1987 and doctorate in Osaka in 1993.
