Nicolaus Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance astronomer and church administrator. His mathematical model treated Earth as a planet, challenging the established arrangement of the cosmos even though it retained circular motions.

Grew up in a merchant family and was supported by his uncle after his father’s death.

Studied in Kraków and in Italy, pursuing astronomy, law and medicine.
