Jamsetji Tata
Jamsetji Tata was an Indian industrialist who built a textile business and planned institutions that his successors brought to completion. His ambitions extended from modern industry to higher education. The Tata group traces its foundation to his trading firm of 1868.

Navsari family
Born into a Parsi family; his father moved from a priestly family tradition into business.
Bombay education
Studied at Elphinstone College before joining his father’s trading firm.
