Giovanni Schiaparelli

Giovanni Schiaparelli was an Italian astronomer and historian of astronomy. His observations influenced planetary mapping, though the apparent Martian channels did not prove artificial canals.

Graduated from Turin in 1854 before further study in Berlin and work at Pulkovo Observatory.

    Returned to Italy to work in Milan.
