Early life

Training

Studied with Friedrich Bessel in Königsberg and completed a doctorate in 1822.

Career

    Finnish observatories

    Directed observatory work in Turku and Helsinki.

  2. 1837

    Bonn

    Moved to Bonn, where he developed a new observatory.

  3. 1863

    Scientific cooperation

    Helped found the Astronomische Gesellschaft.
