Elena Kagan’s career moved between legal scholarship, presidential administration and the Supreme Court. Before her appointment as a justice, she led Harvard Law School and served as US solicitor general.

Grew up in New York and studied at Princeton, Oxford and Harvard before clerking for Justice Thurgood Marshall.
