Eddie Mabo
A Meriam land-rights campaigner whose name is attached to the 1992 Mabo judgment. His case challenged the legal treatment of Indigenous land rights after colonisation.
Early life
Mer upbringing
Grew up on Mer, also called Murray Island, within Meriam law and custom.
Mainland work
Worked in Queensland, including as a gardener at James Cook University.

Became active in Indigenous rights and education in Townsville.

Joined fellow Meriam plaintiffs in bringing a land-rights case.
