C. R. Rao
C. R. Rao was an Indian-American statistician whose early research helped shape modern statistics. His work addressed how much information data contain and how reliably quantities can be estimated. He also trained generations of researchers in India and the United States.

Born in present-day Karnataka and educated in several towns in Andhra Pradesh.

Studied mathematics at Andhra University, then statistics in Calcutta.

Joined the institute in Calcutta and began his research career.
