Albertina Sisulu
Albertina Sisulu was a South African nurse and anti-apartheid leader. She helped build women’s organisations and the United Democratic Front before serving in the country’s first democratic Parliament.
Early life
Rural childhood
Grew up in the Transkei and helped care for younger relatives after her father’s death.
Nursing training
Moved to Johannesburg in 1940 to train as a nurse.
