Alain Connes
Alain Connes is a French mathematician whose research connects operator algebras, geometry and mathematical physics. His work on von Neumann algebras earned the 1982 Fields Medal.

He studied at the École normale supérieure and completed his doctorate under Jacques Dixmier in 1973.
