Wangechi Mutu is a Kenyan-American artist working across collage, sculpture, film and performance. Her altered bodies connect questions of beauty with colonial histories and environmental damage.

Early life

Nairobi and Wales

Grew up in Nairobi before attending Atlantic College in Wales.

Art school

Graduated from Cooper Union in 1996 and Yale in 2000.

Career

    Sculpture training

    Completed her Yale MFA and began exhibiting internationally.
