Early life

Birbhum upbringing

Born in Labhpur, passed matriculation in 1916 and studied in Calcutta. Illness and political activity interrupted his university education.

    Committed to writing after imprisonment for independence activism.

    Published Chaitali Ghurni and met Rabindranath Tagore.

    Writers’ organisation

    Led Bengal’s Anti-Fascist Writers and Artists Association.
