American basketball player and coach whose Knicks teams won titles in 1970 and 1973. Previously won an NBA championship as a player with Rochester.

Early life

Brooklyn basketball

Grew up in Brooklyn and played at Franklin K. Lane High School. Graduated from City College of New York in 1942 before joining the Navy.

Career

    Joined the professional team after naval service.

    Moved to Milwaukee and began coaching while still playing.

    Took charge after a decade working as a scout.
