Nicholas Shehadie

Australian rugby international and civic leader who captained his country and later served as Sydney’s lord mayor. As a rugby administrator, he helped secure support for a world tournament.

Early life

Sydney roots

Grew up in a Lebanese Australian family in Redfern and attended local schools. Surf-club friendships helped draw him into rugby at Randwick.

Career

    Played his first Test against New Zealand.

    Lord Mayor

    Led Sydney’s city government.

    Presided over the Australian Rugby Union.
