Kishan Maharaj was a leading tabla soloist and accompanist in Hindustani classical music. His playing supported singers, instrumentalists and dancers while demonstrating intricate rhythmic patterns.

Born in Benaras, he began learning with his father and continued under his uncle Kanthe Maharaj after his father’s death.
