Isiah Thomas

American point guard who played his entire NBA career for Detroit. Later worked in coaching, team management and broadcasting.

Early life

Chicago upbringing

Grew up on the West Side as the youngest of nine children. Attended St. Joseph High School before playing for Indiana University.

Career

  1. 1981

    College champion and draft

    Led Indiana to the NCAA title and became the NBA draft’s second pick.

  2. 1989–1990

    NBA championships

    Led Detroit to consecutive titles.

  3. 2000–2012

    Coaching

    Held head-coaching posts with the Pacers, Knicks and Florida International University.
