Honoré Daumet

Honoré Daumet combined architectural practice, restoration and teaching in nineteenth-century France. His atelier trained architects who went on to win major academic prizes.

Early life

Beaux-Arts training

Studied in Paris and won the architecture Grand Prix de Rome in 1855.

Career

  1. 1861

    Macedonian expedition

    Travelled with archaeologist Léon Heuzey.

  2. 1875–1882

    Chantilly

    Reconstructed the château for the Duke of Aumale.

  3. 1908

    Royal Gold Medal

    Received the RIBA honour.

Worked with Joseph-Louis Duc on its extension and western front.
