Hilla Limann was a Ghanaian diplomat and politician who served as president from 1979 until the 1981 coup.

Early life

Education

Attended school in Tamale before studying political science, history and French in Britain and France.

Career

  1. 1960s–1970s

    Diplomatic service

    Worked in Ghana’s foreign ministry and postings in Lomé and Geneva.

  2. 1979

    Presidency

    Won the presidential election and took office in September.

  3. 1981

    Coup

    Was removed from office by Jerry Rawlings.

    Presidential candidate

    Contested the election for the People’s National Convention.
