Festus Mogae was a Botswana economist and president whose administration made HIV treatment a national priority.

Education

Studied in the United Kingdom before returning to Botswana’s civil service in 1968.

Career

    Central bank

    Served as governor of the Bank of Botswana.

  2. 1989–1998

    Finance minister

    Led the finance ministry and also became vice-president.

  3. 1998–2008

    Presidency

    Served as Botswana’s third president.
