Early life

Training and travel

Began training under Samuel Hewitt in 1856 and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. A sketching tour in France and Germany helped shape his architectural interests.

Career

    First practice

    Established a partnership with Thomas Vaughan.

  2. 1869

    Major commission

    Began work for Henry Peek at Rousdon.

  3. 1875

    New partnership

    Joined Harold Peto after Vaughan’s death.

  4. 1908–1910

    Led the professional institute.
