Daphne Akhurst

Australian tennis player whose name is carried by the Australian Open women’s singles trophy. Combined singles success with numerous doubles titles during the 1920s.

School and music

Attended Normanhurst School and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Her father was a lithographer.
