D. H. Lawrence was an English writer who explored desire, class and the pressures of industrial society. His fiction and poetry often place bodily experience and difficult relationships against restrictive social conventions.
Early life
Mining community
Grew up as the son of a coal miner and a former schoolteacher.
Education
Won a scholarship to Nottingham High School and later trained as a teacher.

Taught in Croydon while publishing early stories, poems and novels.

Left teaching and travelled with Frieda Weekley, whom he later married.
