Charles Bachman

American computing pioneer whose career was spent in industry. His Integrated Data Store helped establish practical database management before relational systems became dominant.

Engineering education

Grew up in a football coach’s family and encountered fire-control computers during wartime army service. Studied mechanical engineering at Michigan State and Pennsylvania.
