Baaba Maal is a Senegalese singer and guitarist whose work draws on the musical traditions of the Senegal River region. He has also worked on international soundtracks and United Nations campaigns.

River-town origins

Grew up in Podor in a family associated with fishing rather than the hereditary musician tradition.

Musical study

Learned with his friend Mansour Seck and pursued further musical education in Dakar and Paris.
