Early life

Training

Attended Durham School and trained with John Paterson while work was under way at Brancepeth Castle.

Career

  1. 1824

    Antiquarian society

    Became a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

  2. 1831

    Harlaxton Manor

    Began work on a major country-house commission.

  3. 1851

    Tower of London

    Surveyed the Beauchamp Tower before undertaking further restorations.

  4. 1863

    Royal Gold Medal

    Received the RIBA award.
